SHOEBOX donations for the Rotary Guernesiais Christmas appeal have dropped this year, but organisers said they were still pleased with how much was given.
A container filled with 3,096 boxes from Guernsey is currently being shipped to Montenegro, Moldova and Albania.
Alan and Heather Dearman organised the donations, which contain gifts for children.
‘It was very, very good,’ Mr Dearman said. ‘The total number was only 144 short of the Guernsey record, which was set last year.’
The biggest drop came from the schools. This year, 1,070 came from those establishments – more than 300 fewer than last year.

Voice For Victims
Voice for Victims is a campaign aimed at promoting the rights of those affected by child sexual abuse.
Well done to the Dearman family for continuing this fine Guernsey tradition.I wonder if even more could have been achieved with a little free advertising through the two local radio stations and perhaps a news clip on CTV ( or did I miss it?)
Seeing all those happy faces in the photo takes me back several decades and tempts me to dig out my badges from the attic. There are quite a few books on the subject up there too which will hopefully get my young grandsons interested when the time comes but if anyone has a good condition copy of ‘ Scouting for Beavers’ I would be happy to put a reasonable bid in
