HOMEOWNERS have been advised to take the necessary measures to avoid their properties being flooded.

With the forecast of more rain to come and the ground already saturated, Guernsey Water said islanders with particularly low-lying properties should be on the alert.

‘At the moment we are keeping a careful eye on the situation but the message we are giving to people is to be prepared and be sensible,’ director of water services Andrew Redhead said.

‘We would advise people to make sure douits and streams are clear, as this can be the cause of localised flooding, and to take necessary measures to make sure water doesn’t get into their properties. We would also advise drivers to be careful and be considerate of pedestrians.’
