Sark Lark ‘was killed off by new rules 12 years ago’

PEOPLE will always attempt to break the law but ‘to all intents and purposes’ the Sark Lark has been shut down by regulation, Seigneur Michael Beaumont has said.
Mr Beaumont (pictured) spoke yesterday after Panorama aired footage of an ‘old Sark Larker’ allegedly offering to hide £6m. from the UK taxman.
‘It stopped as soon as Guernsey brought in the law, but there will always be the odd person who breaks the law,’ he said. ‘It has never occurred here again as far as I’m aware but people will, of course, move to other jurisdictions.’
Panorama claimed the Sark Lark was not dead ‘rather it has moved and gone global’ as former Sarkees relocated to jurisdictions without regulation.
‘Obviously it’s not Guernsey’s responsibility if other jurisdictions allow it,’ Mr Beaumont said.
