Apply cemetery rules with more sensitivity, say Vale deputies

CEMETERY rules must be implemented with more sensitivity, Vale deputies have said.
The issue has arisen after the flower holders on Philip Webb’s Vale Cemetery grave were removed without his family’s permission and the earth was filled in around it and seeded with grass.
Deputy Matt Fallaize said he could understand why Mr Webb’s mother, Marilyn Vidamour, was upset.
He added that the cemetery rules were not deficient and those in charge of the area did a ‘marvellous job’ of maintaining it. But he thought in this case the committee should have contacted the family and spoken to them one-to-one.
Fellow Vale deputy Mary Lowe agreed unnecessary upset had been caused.
