A 10-YEAR-OLD girl saved the life of a friend who had ‘turned purple’ as she choked on a sweet after school.
Clare Mawson performed lifesaving first aid on five-year-old Jemima Vhadra, who could not breathe when the chewy sweet lodged in her throat.
Clare has been nominated for the St John Ambulance Young First Aider of Year award for her quick-thinking reactions, putting into practice techniques she was taught at school around three years earlier.
She is a best friend of Jemima’s older sister, Emily, and jumped into action when they were playing in the back garden of the Vhadra family home in the Castel.

Very well done young lady .. trouble is somebody in the States will now want to ban sweets!

More like attempt to validate putting a licence on sweet vendors for selling death!!
In all seriousness though that’s probably round the corner! Diabetes is a big expense. About 10% of the NHS budget all though I don’t know what it’s like here. Being overweight is probably the biggest taboo after smoking and sugar contributes to that as well. I can see the health warnings on candy now with a tax on them.
Even more seriously well done Clare!

Brilliant!!!! Nice to hear a success story on these pages. So calm in a bad situation. You are a credit to the community. Good luck with the award nomination. You got my vote! :)

Children often don’t get credit for how responsible they can be, well done young lady. And full marks to her school in giving her the training she used to great effect.
