Hip replacement patient pays in pain for HSSD overspend

A HOUSEKEEPER, in agony waiting for hip replacement surgery, was outraged after hearing her operation had been postponed due to Health and Social Services’ predicted £2.5m. overspend.

Mandy Le Cornu, 50, pictured, said she contacted the Medical Specialist Group after hearing the announcement that all surgical procedures scheduled for December were being assessed and that those deemed non-urgent or elective would be postponed.

‘I was told it had been cancelled,’ she said. ‘Apparently, I should be receiving an official letter today. I think it’s disgraceful.’

She said the operation, which had been due to take place on 20 December, had been booked since July.

‘It’s been a very stressful time – I’m in a lot of pain,’ she said.
