OUR main focus of the day is the Health and Social Services board’s crisis talks over calls for its resignation.

The department is meeting today after its predicted £2.5m. overspend sparked former board member Deputy Mike Hadley and seven other deputies to request resignations.

If they refuse, it will be for the Policy Council to decide when the vote is held – the ministers of which have refused to give public backing to the under-fire department.

We’ll be keeping you abreast of developments and getting reaction to the outcome of that meeting.

Also today, we’ll be in Town at lunchtime to see the island’s best chefs go head to head in the Big Soup Kitchen Challenge.

And tonight we’ll be heading to the Bridge, where shops are opening late to allow people to do some out-of-hours Christmas shopping while soaking up the festive atmosphere.

Plus we’ll be getting updates on the discovery of Legionella at King Edward VII Hospital, finding out how the airport work is going and getting local reaction to the Duchess of Cambridge’s pregnancy.

In the world of sport, tomorrow’s paper will feature an in-depth interview with outgoing Guernsey cricket coach Andy Cornford.

Plus we’ll have another eight pages of UK news and sport, with the continued airport closure again preventing the national papers from reaching the island.

Why are the people putting up with what?

There are about five different article headings mentioned in the piece but I’m guessing you’re asking why, after so many tantrums by shop staff over Sunday trading, are they not complaining about having to work evenings throughout December
