GUERNSEY POST is expecting to deliver more than a quarter-of-a-million packets and parcels this month.

Yesterday marked the busiest web-shopping day across the UK, with people spending £10,000 every second as many stores slashed prices by half.

Chief executive Boley Smillie said the volume of packets and parcels rose by 26% in November compared to last year – around 200,000 were delivered to local homes – and he predicted more records would be broken in December. But with extra deliveries made this weekend, he said the States-owned utility was coping well.

‘It has been a difficult year with the loss of LVCR and a general decline in letters but the growth in packets and parcels is very much welcomed. With the increasing volume and the airport closures, extra deliveries were made on Saturday and Sunday and that proved really successful,’ he said.

    200,000 parcels in November!

I wonder what steps the Town shopkeepers are planning to counter this serious loss of trade?

When I first read the words “spending £10,000 every second” I thought this was another story about Hunter Adam and HSSD!

Well done Boley and all the team.
