Alderney looks to restructure States along same lines as Guernsey

ALDERNEY States is discussing adopting a similar political structure to Guernsey.
Under the plans, a new Policy Committee will be made up of heads of existing groups such as the Building Development and Control Committee, General Services Committee and newly instigated committees.
The Policy and Finance Committee, which currently consists of all States members, will deal with financial matters only.
One of the aims of the shake-up is to stimulate greater debate at the monthly States meetings.
The proposals are to be announced at a people’s meeting in January and comments from the public are sought.

Sounds like a big step backwards to the old days of multiple committees, each of which had no idea what the other was doing, ruled over by a pseudo-cabinet committee. More committees equals less influence for each, except for the Policy committee, or whatever they decide to call it. A classic case of divide and conquer.
I suppose the silly bu–ers will be calling the Chairs of these “newly instigated” committees Ministers next. Silly enough in Guernsey but in Alderney utterly farcical.
Looking on the bright side, it should give Lee and the Panto group plenty of material for next year.
