Vulnerable elderly ‘face choice between eating and heating’

PENSIONERS fear that Guernsey’s most vulnerable elderly residents could face the choice between ‘eating and heating’ thanks to high electricity bills.
The backlash came from residents at the Salvation Army Community Centre in St Sampson’s yesterday, after the regulator announced that local households are being hit with annual electricity bills more than a third – £300 – higher than in Jersey.
Charles Renouf, 80, said Guernsey customers were being ripped off, but he was fortunate to be in an economical property.
John Strachan, 69, reacted angrily to the difference in prices.
‘It is a licence to print money,’ he said.
