Fog hampers airport handlers’ strike action

STRIKE action by baggage handlers was brought to a swift halt yesterday by the foggy conditions at Guernsey Airport.

Some staff from airport handling agent Menzies Aviation refused to touch freight from Flybe and Blue Islands commercial flights.

However, only one Flybe aircraft touched down in the morning before the weather halted arrivals.

The employees have been calling for a cost of living rise and were due to meet the southern area manager yesterday for negotiations.

Unite regional officer Bob Lanning, pictured, said Menzies deferred yesterday’s meeting due to the busy Christmas period and as a direct result some members of staff decided to take action.

Very surprised that Menzies didn’t give them anything they wanted, remember like the states did with the Airport firemen?
