Check your cesspit after heavy rainfall

STATES WORKS has urged homeowners to check their cesspits after receiving many callouts following heavy rain.
Senior manager, technical, Nick Nicolle said surface water had been running into some cesspits and causing them to fill. He has asked people to check that water could not get into the cesspits.
‘Our sewage collection service has been rushed off its feet,’ he said. ‘If those people with cesspits could check them that would be great.’
He said the sewage tanker drivers had received calls all week.
States Works has also been pumping water from two flooded properties and it has pumped water, on behalf of Guernsey Water, from Barkers Quarry, which was close to capacity.

These men on our sewage lorrys do a good job they have a awfull job to do but most do it really well mainly they are always polite and helpfully they donot get the rewards of the top payed workers in the office but there pay is poor for this job maybe nick Nichols should go out for a week with them and do the job see how he and others like him would cope not to good I think
