MORE than 200 people packed the Bailiff’s Chambers for Richard Collas’ first New Year’s Day reception yesterday.

The annual tradition was a chance for Lt-Governor Air Marshal Peter Walker to pay tribute to islanders who had received honours from the Queen in the New Year’s list.

Jurat Mike Tanguy was awarded an MBE for his public and voluntary services to Guernsey.

A British Empire Medal will be given to Alderney Week organising committee member Ilona Soane-Sands.

Olympic gold medal-winning dressage rider Carl Hester will also be receiving the MBE for his services to equestrianism, while former 201 (Guernsey’s Own) Squadron commanding officer Captain James Johnston will receive an OBE.

‘It is important we recognise the Guernsey people honoured, but also people from the wider Bailiwick,’ Air Marshal Walker said.
