FIVE islanders have been shortlisted for the Specsavers Unsung Hero Award.

The public is being asked to choose a winner from Shaun Winterflood, Jane Northrop, Graham Williams, Roy Trustum and Evan Ozanne. In all, 13 people were nominated for the award, which recognises those who are dedicated to helping others in the local community.

A judging panel comprising Specsavers founder Dame Mary Perkins, the Lt-Governor’s wife, Mrs Lynda Walker, and Lady Diana Rowland, wife of former Bailiff Sir Geoffrey, chose the shortlist.

‘Deciding on a shortlist is always a difficult task because all of the nominees deserve an award for the great work they do for Guernsey’s community,’ said Dame Mary.

I congratulate all these nominees, their work and non self serving community interests across the island are so well proven, and appreciated. Well done to the Judging Panel in selecting those in our community, your task will be difficult.

I would nominate Mr Richard Barneby for his decades of services as Procureur of St Peter Port, and his help for the underpriveledged of that parish.

      Toolbag,
Why on earth did you not propose Richard Barnaby? It was up to you to put his name forward if you felt he deserved the recognition. Walk the talk – or keep quiet !
