WHILE some Saltpans residents are pleased to see signs of progress at the Guernsey Data Park site others still have concerns about the impact the development might have.

The Longport Group has started to move ground and rubble around the large St Sampson’s site and on Friday a crane was used to lift more containers onto the land.

Those overlooking the site from their homes along Saltpans Road said progress so far had been slow but hoped work would now get quicker.

‘I have lived here for four years now and since then it has just been a mess,’ said Dave Goupillot, 65. ‘The sooner they do something the better. I’d rather see something being done than see what is there now.’

John and Margaret Helyer, who have lived at their Saltpans home for 40 years, said they still had concerns about the data park.

Hmmm. The Data Park.Is this the real reason that our electricity bills are so high to provide the infrastructure to feed the beast in future years?

PS Hope they save a few of those wild pampas Grass plants. They would look quite nice dotted around some of our bays

But is there any real chance that companies will locate or relocate ?

Building it does not guarantee any tenants.

Unless C&E are going to hand out subsidies on top of Zero-10 (non)-taxation.

Hope it gets up and running because we are going to need something soon.

    So – fingers crossed.

Then we can use the traffic lights. Much better than a filter – that would be too easy.

What’s the betting they’ll build a bit then claim they can’t find tenants and they need to build offices to make it viable?

Don’t knock the developers. They’ll be providing work for hundreds of locals during the building stage, then hundreds more when it’s complete …
      won’t they?
