Second power cable to France ‘logical’, GE hopeful on renewables
Tuesday 8th January 2013, 12:00PM GMT.
UNDERSEA cable links will play a vital part in the future of the island’s energy supply, Guernsey Electricity has said.
It follows support for a second cable to France from the Renewable Energy Team as the first step in a ‘logical sequence’ for energy development in the island.
GE managing director Alan Bates, pictured, said the utility had been assisting the team in producing its strategy, which in turn had given it more clarity on the States’ thinking towards large-scale renewables locally.
‘The RET has once again stressed the vital importance of more undersea cable links to ensure security of supply to the island,’ he said.
‘Combined with this security, we also need to increase the import capacity available to Guernsey to give access to imported low-carbon and renewable energy today.’

Renewable energy will be produced in Guernsey in less than 10 years. The aims of Guernsey Electricty could be different to these aims. They are not experts in this area they run a power station with a cable to France. Renewable energy should be separate like it is in Alderney. The amount of power supplied by turbines could supply most of Guernseys Electricty in a short time things will move quickly when Alderney starts producing Electricty.
