AN ACRYLIC frame could be used to make the Asterix Roman wreck look complete, if a maritime museum at Oatlands goes ahead.

Planning permission for the museum, which has been specially designed to house the wreck – found in St Peter Port Harbour on Christmas Day 1982 – was granted last month.

Lovell Ozanne architects have been in charge of drawing up the plans.

Director Andrew Male said the design had been kept simple and economical, with the timber building measuring about 800sq. metres.

‘Because of the way the boat has been preserved, it does not need to be kept wet,’ he said.

So will it be restored into a full ship or will it be displayed as just a bunch of rotten timbers with a picture next to it of a viking ship. Then after a year or Two removed and building converted into something else ???

Don’t you mean Roman ship, rather than ‘Viking ship’ ?

Forget recreating the wreck, I think there is something quirky about displaying some antiquated timbers- theorization about the appearance or use of the wreck during its flowering will do much to generate some peculiarity fascinating concepts. This is the beauty of guesswork.

Doesn’t look much like the artists impression of the boat as I recall it from Gsy museum.

No mast, no sails, no lots of things.

Not something I’d want to look at twice and certainly not something which should have any States money spent on it.

Would it fit in de Sausmarez Ward?
