PRICES of photographic equipment will remain competitive, despite Jessops closing, Guernsey Photographics manager Dave Nash has said.

All Jessops stores closed on Friday after the company went into administration.

Mr Nash said he was surprised the local branch had closed so quickly, especially as it appeared to be such a successful business.

He also reassured customers that Guernsey Photographics did not have a monopoly and its prices would continue to be competitive.

‘There are no other dedicated camera shops, but there are other businesses which sell camera equipment,’ he said.

    “Remain competitive”?

That would suggest that they were competitive to begin with!

Very sad about Jessops, but 9 times out of ten, they beat Guernsey Photographics hands down on price.

Service and knowledge – now that’s a different matter!

REMAIN competitive? I wasn’t aware they ever had been! I bought a DSLR for Christmas £70 cheaper from John Lewis, shame because I really wanted to use them. Jessops was odd too as their prices were cheaper online anyway.

Mr Nash says that the prices in his shop will remain competitive .. against who or what? The last time I looked at buying a camera from Guernsey Photographics they were charging the same price as a uk shop for the some make and model. No VAT free shopping there then!

If ‘competitive’ is replaced with ‘high’ then this article makes sense. All too similar to the computer shop next door with its inflated prices.

I’ve seen camera equipment for less in the UK with VAT included. No wonder people shop at UK retailers who deduct VAT.

Prior to Jessops arriving here I had enquired about a DSLR from Guernsey Photographic at a cost £1200, imported from the US the exact same camera cost £600. It really is a shame as i am a fan of keeping business local But i would of been mad not to save £600. But to be objective they are very reasonable in ipad minis.
