DISABILITY legislation helps to change attitudes towards disabled people and ensures they can reach their full potential and play a part in society, Baroness Tanni Grey-Thompson has said.

The States is currently drafting a disability strategy that will go to the Assembly for approval in the first part of this year.

The retired Paralympic athlete, who has won 11 gold medals, flew over to the island yesterday for her first visit to the island in a bid to promote the need for a disability law and celebrate last year’s summer of sport.

She attended a special tea party at the Guernsey Cheshire Home yesterday, along with four local Olympic torchbearers.
