Unsurprisingly, it’s the weather that is the main focus of attention of our news team today.
We have reporters around the island getting stories and pictures of how the snow has affected different parishes, and we’re keeping in touch with the airport and the bus company to find out how badly travel has been affected. Updates will be posted onto This is Guernsey as we receive them.
Aside from the negative impact of the conditions, the snow does create some scenic pictures around the island, and those who aren’t at work or in school will doubtless be making the most of the opportunities offered for snowball fights, building snowmen and tobogganing.
If you’ve got any photos that you would like to share with us, please email them to our pictures desk at pictures@guernsey-press.com
The weather may cause the cancellation of planned events for today, but if they go ahead then we will be there:
The Lt-Governor is due to be visiting States Works headquarters at La Hure Mare this morning, weather permitting, Amherst School is due to play host to a preview of the forthcoming Safer Internet Day, and Commerce and Employment minister Deputy Kevin Stewart is scheduled to speak at a Chamber of Commerce lunch today.
Should these events go ahead, we’ll have pictures and reports.
We’re also getting reaction to today’s story that HSBC is set to axe jobs in its fund administration section in Guernsey, and comments on new plans for a mental health centre which are revealed in today’s Billet d’Etat.
There should be word this afternoon on whether Guernsey FC’s scheduled FA Vase match away to Rye United will take place tomorrow, and if it’s going ahead the sports pages will have more details of the team lineup for the game.
Sports editor Rob Batiste looks back at this year’s Sporting Achievement Awards in his Inside Track column, and also wonders why it is that the island’s east European residents haven’t taken to football as much as they have to volleyball and netball.
