After being involved in discussions with local bus drivers and their management, Unite the Union representative Bob Lanning, pictured, will be back in action today, this time talking to the chief of Guernsey’s fire service on the matter of retained firefighters.
We’re aiming to talk to Mr Lanning after the meeting with a view to running a report tomorrow.
The Commerce and Employment Department has appointed a new firm to handle its marketing strategy for promoting Guernsey, so we’ll be finding out more about that today.
We’re expecting more news today on the appeal to raise money for a new playground at Saumarez Park, with word of the latest fund-raising initiative due later.
Deputy John Gollop has organised a People’s Meeting for tonight. Anyone is able to attend to talk about issues such as the subjects due to be discussed by the States this month. The meeting is at Les Cotils with a 7 for 7.30pm start and we’ll have a summary in tomorrow’s Press.
We’ll be keeping an eye on news from the UK today, with Prime Minister David Cameron due to give a speech on the issue of tax evasion. We’ll also be canvassing reaction to his comments yesterday on the issue of Britain’s future in the EU.
Guernsey bowls player and Guiton Ambassador of the Year nominee Alison Merrien is playing in the World Indoor Bowls Championships finals today, and tomorrow’s sports pages will have a report on the game.
There’ll also be a report on flyweight boxer Bradley Watson’s latest professional fight in London tonight, and a look ahead to tomorrow night’s dinner boxing at the St Pierre Park Hotel.
