Operation Pothole swings into action at The Grange

A PHONE call about potholes in The Grange prompted a quick response from the Public Services Department yesterday.
The call, received late on Tuesday afternoon, led to staff assessing the severity of the problem at 7.45am yesterday.
Road inspector Mark Coughlin checked the road and decided urgent action was needed.
‘When something is brought to our attention that is causing a hazard, we need to act. Once the asphalt is penetrated, it is gone and we have got to move.’

With the amount of potholes being reported I guess the telephone is on answer phone while our highly paid PSD officers are helping the poor lads to get them filled in.

I’m sure he earns more than the guys who actually have to go and fill in the holes. I’m sure these guys do not need to be told where the pot holes are and they don’t need a road inspector to watch them do the work with his hands in his pockets. This is why Guernsey is in a mess with bureaucratic nonsense.

Is it just me,or has anyone Else realy read into this incredible Press storey about potholes? The said pothole in question has been getting worse month
By month over the last year,and Being that the said pothole is situated in one
Of the Islands busiest main roads,then the Road inspector , Police ,and by the look of the Photo also traffic wardens,plus a multitude of other so called experts must of during the last year,driven over and passed this
“Grange crater”.So now i beg to Ask the question,why why have none of the above mentioned groups,who Could not help but of seen the “Grange crater”, had the common sense to of called in about this problem,before someone especialy on two wheels had a bad accident ? (Common sense is not very common these days).So why why is it taking phone calls from us jo blogs public to Get things moving,when there are people in place being paid a fortune to keep the Islands roads safe? In all honesty its just beyond belief,and if the so called experts can not do the job professionaly,then move over and let someone Who can,do the job!

The Road Inpector will only visit a pothole if its considered dangerous.Its for the general public to report before there is any response.
Even they are road users like us and should take action before an accident occurs.
When Deputy P Luxton took on the helm of this department he stated his pride of maintaining a good service.
I think he needs to open his eyes to the bad conditions of the roads and do something about it.A £300.000 budget for road repairs?
It seems putting every department under one department does not work when it comes down to budgeting for overdue works such as the highway

I like a good whinge as much as the next Guern but come on people – we complain there are potholes and then complain when a couple get filled!
