GUERNSEY’S chief inspector of marine accidents has decided not to take any action against Commerce and Employment after the Leopardess hit a reef off Herm in May last year.

The department confirmed an enquiry into the incident, which left two of the vessel’s propellers needing to be replaced, had been closed.

‘The chief inspector of marine accidents [Public Services chief officer Adrian Lewis] did not take any action against the department,’ said a spokesman.

‘The section’s officers immediately reported the incident to the CIMA on the day of occurrence back in May 2012.

‘It is the CIMA’s responsibility to assess the incident and decide whether or not to conduct a full investigation, which depends on the seriousness, causes and circumstances.

‘In this particular case, as the incident was neither serious nor incurred either loss of life or injury, the CIMA took the decision to conduct an administrative inquiry.’
