Micro-managing FTP ‘will clog up system’

Scrutiny of the States’ big savings initiative should be left to the Public Accounts Committee instead of bogging it down in detail, its champion has said.

Treasury minister Gavin St Pier’s defence of the Financial Transformation Programme followed results of a snap-shot survey by the Guernsey Press that showed while 21 politicians were unequivoally behind the programme, 20 were willing to consider changes.

Many made comments about a lack of transparency and information in the process.

A range of amendments have been submitted ahead of today’s debate to that effect.

‘My view is that the PAC is there to perform a scrutiny role and determine whether there is value for money in what government does,’ he said.

Mr St Pier needs to accept that any form of “Transformation Program” might need to be reviewed and updated as time goes by in order to keep the program relevant and not rooted in the “well it was good when we thought it up 2 years ago” mentality.
Having said that, I’m convinced that many serving deputies wait for information to be spoon fed to them rather than actively seek out the informaqtion they require, that might save all the “we need more time” calls when it comes to debate time in the house.

FFS. You all need to think before you spend, make cuts where you can and stop throwing our bloney money at stuff you don’t need, that’s it….

now stop talking and just get on with it!
