RICHARD III’s remains have been uncovered, thanks in part to the work of a Guernsey company.

It was revealed yesterday that the human remains found in a Leicester car park were that of the 15th century king.

Guernsey geophysical contracting company Sumo Stratascan surveyed the East Midlands site in August.

‘Sumo Stratascan was thrilled to be involved in this unique project and we are absolutely delighted to learn that the body has been positively identified as Richard III, some 500 years after his death,’ a company spokesman said.

Ground-penetrating radar was used to identify items up to four metres below the surface. The spokesman said this information was then used to compile a 3D image of any disturbances. ‘The data collected at shallow depths – down to one metre – was overwhelmed by strong responses most likely associated with made ground or demolition debris,’ he said.
