AN EMERGENCY 45-minute CD was played on a loop for two and a half hours yesterday morning as Island FM was among the worst-hit by a power cut on the Bridge

Supplies were cut off there and in parts of the Vale between around 6.30 and 8.59am yesterday. Homes and businesses were affected by the outage, with many shops unable to open.

But Island FM was a major casualty, with station director Mike Huston saying: ‘We can’t go on air speaking and have been unable to for about two and a half hours.

‘The 45-minute looped emergency CD has been playing. It means all the competitions, advertising and news can’t go out. The breakfast show is our busiest show. I can’t even make a cup of tea.’

A Guernsey Electricity statement said a cable entry point at a substation close to the Bridge failed, causing the fault.

I’m pretty sure that 45 minute emergency CD has been on loop for about 15 years!

I quite enjoyed listening to Island FM with just music and no talking or adverts… made for a much more peaceful start to my morning

I listen to the breakfast show every morning whilst I’m getting ready for work, and once I realised what had happened I was very disappointed-so boring getting ready without any fun bits of chat inbetween the songs! But following James and Clare’s tweets sort of made up for it, as they were very funny.
