The Specsavers Unsung Hero Award is presented by Dame Mary Perkins to Roy Trustum for his voluntary work with Age Concern. The 81-year-old celebrated the arrival of his first great-granddaughter on Wednesday night.
LAST night marked a double celebration for Roy Trustum who was crowned the 2012 Specsavers Unsung Hero just a day after becoming a great-grandfather.
The 81-year-old celebrated the arrival of his first great-granddaughter on Wednesday night, before winning the prestigious award for his voluntary work for Age Concern.
Moments after picking up the award, the grandfather of six said: ‘It was a good omen last night when I got a call saying I was a great-grandfather. There must be something to it.
‘I am delighted. I just thoroughly enjoy what I do.
‘I do it because I enjoy it, not because of what you can get out of it.
‘I think it gives pleasure to people. It gives them somewhere to go and somewhere to keep them occupied.’
