Cost of groceries is first review of 2013 for regulator
Saturday 9th February 2013, 12:00PM GMT.
A REVIEW of grocery prices is being launched by the regulator in a move that could drive down shopping bills in Guernsey.
The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities yesterday announced it would begin a pan-island study later this month comparing the cost of items such as baked goods, milk, fruit and vegetables.
Cicra chief executive Andrew Riseley, pictured said its review would help to give it and consumers an insight into the reasons behind any higher prices.
It would then allow the regulator to investigate whether these could be justified.
‘The study is both to investigate what prompts price differences and whether this can be explained and justified,’ he said.
