Bundle deals will see home phone costs fall
Monday 11th February 2013, 8:30AM GMT.
BUNDLE telecom deals could be sweeping through Guernsey later this year when competition in the landline market is introduced.
The Channel Islands Competition and Regulatory Authorities said the opening up of the landline market in Guernsey and Jersey could only be good news for customers and deals would help to bring costs down.
Cicra chief executive Andrew Riseley, pictured, said it would require Cable & Wireless to offer wholesale line rental to other operators in Guernsey.
The change is expected to be introduced in the third quarter of 2013.

I’m sure I’m not alone in saying if it wasn’t for broadband I wouldn’t have a landline at all.

Absolutely 100% true.
Aside from broadband and Sky/satellite services I have no use for a line.
The ‘costs’ that fall will probably be cheap/free local calls. You will notice line rentals will consistently go up even though ‘costs will fall’.
These bundle deals are a bit rubbish for most as you end up paying for a service never used.

You are quite right. I only have one call on my landline daily, around 4.30 p.m. and that is one of these “Have you been mis-sold…” jobs. I only ever use my landline to locate my mobile phone!

I think we need to focus on how expensive the broadband market rather than the landline market. The only reason a lot of people I know (including myself) have a landline is because it is a prerequisite for broadband and they use their mobiles to make all of their calls.

We do not need more competition in the Guernsey telecomms market. What we need is to get control of our telecoms company back. That is the only way Guernsey customers will ever get what they want.
Increased competition is a false God, just look at the mess that is the UK’s utilities markets (not to mention the trains).
