SPECIALIST abseilers will have to be used to clear up an ‘appalling’ case of fly tipping, St Peter’s constables have said.

The incident at La Prevote car park on the cliffs was reported to the constables on Saturday morning.

It is believed that the rubbish was dumped there very recently.

Senior constable Steve Fell said it appeared that a small tipper truck was used to dump the rubbish over a low stone wall at the beauty spot and onto the sloping cliff below.

    Stiletto

This is one of many sites despoiled by fly tipping and until we can bring back the free collection service, nothing will change.

And, of course, Stiletto, we need to bring the perpetrators to justice. Not just a fine, but community service involving the clearing up of refuse. Like I have said on many occasions, education is a major prerequisite for these individuals.

And what kind of education do you think they need? They know its illegal and wrong but they don`t care.

Okay, educating these ignoramuses is otiose, but heavy financial penalties, community service and prosecution in court is a good idea. I think that’s as rational as one can be- I wouldn’t entertain any punitive measures that are more severe than those mentioned as that would suggest that I have stepped behind the bounds for what is considered ( not universally considered as the articles of faith for other countres may argue that the punishment ought to be more severe for such or similar kinds of felony) acceptable behaviour, and thus morally correct.

Additionally, rehabilitation may possibly be worthwhile, though, if the individual assisting them is unduly passionate, may cause the rehabilitation programme to switch to a crusade in which they indoctrinate the offender.

Being made to clear it up would be a pretty good education. And then take them to other littered sites and get them to clear those up too. The tricky bit will be catching them……

Sorry Ed i skipped your post soon as i saw that word “otiose” and went straight on to rosie`s post which was much easier to understand and to the point although i don`t see that as education but rather punishment which would hopefully deter them from doing it again but i somehow doubt it.

A shame that it needs to be done at all but why not invite SJAB who would treat it as a training exercise for a reasonable donation?

Wonder whether the perpetrators were in possession of one of Mrs Cameron’s much vaunted waste transportation licences which she assured us all would reduce fly tipping?

A simple an infallible concept really – if everyone who has to remove so much as a light bulb box from a client’s property shells out 200 quid for one of these [ahem] essential licences, then this will give them such a warm comfortable feeling of security and compliance with this valuable piece of red tape that they’ll never drop a sweet wrapper again in their whole lives. And of course they really do ensure that every single English plated white van coming off the Condor gets their licence before starting work here too. Pure genius Mrs C – what would we do without you?

She’s probably too busy to investigate though as her next hobby horse has recently ridden into town in the guise of beef products.

A much better idea is to find those responsible ASAP and make them retrieve it before appearing in court

I think what you are suggesting is more correction, rather than education, but I do agree with you.

I am sure the police will dig deep into this fly tipping incident for evidence in finding something the culprit/culprits left behind.

They already have evidence that a small tipper truck was involved.Somebody must have seen that truck heading that way.

I hope if and when they catch them the court will take into consideration the man hours of removing the rubbish and cost to tip it in the right location[refuse tip]ontop of the maximum fine.

Police interest? Don’t kid yourself. My friend called them about recent fly-tipping at Jerbourg and was told quite clearly that they weren’t interested in following up the crime.

The only way to discourage it would be to make the people climb down the cliff at police gunpoint and retrieve what they have chucked over. They can also obtain their own safety equipment within an unfair time limit (and even if it makes them go overdrawn) and if they fall down, tough! And if it’s in the water then they can get cold and wet!
