I do not understand why you would say something so offensive and so generalised. I was born in Guernsey, as were many generations of my family (not that this matters) and I don’t believe that I am selfish or self-righteous. I also fail to see many people of that description in my day to day life. I spent 7 years studying in the UK and wouldn’t say there is a higher proportion of selfish or self-righteous people here than on the mainland.

I have posted on these forums once or twice before, but frequently see other remarks belittling Guernsey. Whether that be the police, politicians, education or the general population. I love this Island despite that fact that things often take longer than on the mainland. There are many examples where this is an attractive quality of Guernsey.

I do stop and question sometimes precisely why people choose to move to Guernsey and battle to stay here. The island is a package and -like anywhere- has good and bad.

Perhaps you didn’t intend to make such a sweeping statement, but for you and those who frequently do, you are offending those who have strong ties to the Island. My polite request is that people please think before tarring all Guernsey residents with the same brush and before jumping on the bandwagon when for example the police make a mistake (as forces worldwide sometimes do) and labelling that as typical of the ‘Guernsey Police Force’.

Most people have strong ties to the place they grew up and would feel uncomfortable with people joining their community only to moan about how much they hate it / the people who live there.

I hope I have made my point fairly and with consideration for you as a member of our community.

After this road block the police had two leads they didn’t have previously. I think both turned out to be incorrect but it just goes to show that people don’t always report things to the police.

This road block was an excellent way of talking to the general public face to face.

Also us calling Fred ignorant or whatever, is no worse than a lot of the comments I’ve seen from you. Bus drivers and parishioners spring to mind.

Also to quote you, “What I say is not nonsense, it just sounds dull.”.

Why not make your ideas more interesting and exciting. People get bored when they have to keep stumbling over the less commonly used words. I’m sure a lot of people skip past your posts after the first sentence, despite the fact that you normally have something quite interesting to say.

If the road block was at the Victoria Avenue/Les Banques junction, I’m sure that most of the passing traffic would either have come from or be heading towards the traffic lights and lots of it would have originated in those car parks.
