I’m sure with your last sentence, you are looking to create some gossip perhaps. The dear Mercy Sisters in Guernsey are not of the same ilk as those who were accustomed to such evil acts in the past.

As a Catholic I am full of admiration for the present Pope and I admire his coursge at resigning.

I am ashamed about all the scandals and I hope everything possible will be done to rectify the damage done through paedophilia. All abusive priests should be banished and those bishops who covered up their actions should be answerable to the courts. Our local Diocese of Portsmouth sadly does not have the cleanest record in this respect.

The Magdalen Laundries scandal also does not make comfortable reading. I hope our local Sisters of Mercy were not part of this atrocious abuse.

Oh dear Veritas watch the debate, one speaker linked below on the question ” Is the catholic church a force for good “? the rest of the speakers are in the right hand menu, including high ranking pro church members for balance.

Lets ask the experts on both sides of the fence in a world famous debate

The audience placed their votes at the beginning and at the end. Factually and objective it changed my view of the Church.

Jesus entered the market, and threw out the rich traders dressed in gold and wealth. What would he think of the Vatican’s palaces and the fine cloths and pomp and ceremony by the bishops, cardinals and billions of dollars in fine art and investments.

Very stimulating, powerful, deep and uncomfortable for the church.

One has to wonder why in 600 years he was the first Pope to renounce the Papacy.
Why is it that God helped all the others through to the end but not this one.
If he had prayed about this and reflected upon it for some time, where was God when he needed him.

It is understandable that the Holy Father finds it a strain, especially at his advanced age, and obviously this is something he will have prayed about and reflected upon for some time. And it seems that he deems it best to hand over that stewardship swiftly, rather than allow a prolonged period of increasing ill-health and fevered speculation about his successor. It seems that it was a shock even to those closest to him. The Holy Father will be the first Pope in 600 years to renounce the Papacy. Nevertheless, the Church does not have “policies” or “programmes” which change with the shifting winds of popular opinion. She teaches Truths which endure for eternity. So the Press can save its breath and stop speculating on whether the new Pope will “allow” female ordination, gay “marriage,” contraception, and such like. He won’t. Christ promised that he would be with the Church, to the end of the ages, and that the gates of hell would not prevail against her.

The reason that I would not excogitate this any longer is because it would prove to be a pointless (possibly lengthy) exercise that would display nothing more than a coincidental occurence.

I agree that devoting time to outstanding ideas is a very worthy pass time. I am just explaining that this isn’t a reason for speculation.

The comment made appeared to be a general one. The Seneschal and the Pope finishing on the same day is mere coincidence.

To speculate further would be a pointless and trivial exercise that would not conjure up any data of interest.

…Paul I never saw the Pope as having an inane grin…it was more of a kind of evil smirk…well he did try and conceal child abuse within the church…Tony Blair as Pope is highly unlikely…many too many past sins…what we need is a clean living upstanding boy like Anthony Webber !!

He could write realms of stuff from the Vatican, just slyly and occasionally getting in a mention that he was “once a politician” and that we are forgiven for stopping him in that God declared process.
