RAISED levels of legionella bacteria have been discovered at Alderney’s Mignot Memorial Hospital.

The quantities, described as ‘unacceptable’ by a Health and Social Services Department spokeswoman, were found during routine water testing on 4 February at the Mignot.

Similar sampling in the past has uncovered undesirable levels of the bacteria at the Princess Elizabeth and King Edward VII hospitals.

In an effort to kill the bacteria, shower blocks at the Mignot have been closed, water tanks and shower heads have been scrubbed and a chemical treatment plan has been put in place.
