Fulfilment sector shrinks by 50%
Monday 18th February 2013, 3:00PM GMT.
GUERNSEY’S fulfilment sector has contracted by around 50% since the loss of low value consignment relief, Commerce and Employment has confirmed.
However, it said that bulk mail and fulfilment businesses still accounted for around 200 jobs in the island.
The department’s comments followed confirmation that gardening company Thompson and Morgan had pulled out of the island because of the impact the loss of LVCR had on its business.
‘Thompson and Morgan indicated in the latter half of last year that it would be relocating from Guernsey in response to the removal of low value consignment relief,’ said a Commerce and Employment spokesman.
‘The department was naturally disappointed to learn of the company’s intentions but recognised that it was a commercial decision.’

Guernsey polititions need to be doing something about low value goods coming into the island , duty should be charged on any goods bought in that could otherwise be bought from local business , also put a stop to bob the builders from poland setting up doin cash in hand work then going off without contributing .

If local retailers stopped charging considerably more than internet prices on this (supposedly) VAT free island then I’m sure more people would buy locally……….
Whilst our government is intent on wasting money and taxing us to the hilt to balance the books I certainly wouldn’t be prepared to pay duty.

Times are tough for Joe Public and they should be free to shop and save money where-ever they like.

And dont forget to do the same to the local builders who work cash in hand, I assume thats ok with you Alan

No its not ok , but i assume locals would be easier to track down by the elite tax evasion squad , i doubt guernsey would chase the foreign workers
