A WELL-KNOWN hotelier has thanked a police officer whom he said saved his life after he suffered a heart attack.
Carlo Stefani said he would not be here today were it not for the swift actions of Sergeant Andrew Hockey, who was off duty at the time.
Mr Stefani collapsed in St Julian’s Avenue on 12 November and underwent a quadruple bypass at Southampton General Hospital 17 days later.
On Saturday, for the first time in many years, Mr Stefani decided to celebrate his birthday – his 66th – and he invited Sgt Hockey along to thank him for what he had done.
‘I know I’m a very lucky boy,’ said Mr Stefani. ‘I’ve learned from this that health is everything. I’m 100% certain that if it wasn’t for Andy I wouldn’t be here now.’

Congratulations to Sergeant Andrew Hockey for his good samaritan action. Thankfully, he is far from being a lone representative of fine public servants in the island police service. It is a pity that such people have to be led by a chief who has shown by his actions to be anything but a credit to the men and women he leads.
