WORK could finally begin this summer to convert the former Hangman’s Inn into a funeral home – seven years after Argent Funeral Services bought the property.
The changes could also see the famous Bailiff’s Cross stone given a more prominent spot.

The St Andrew’s pub, on the Bailiff’s Cross junction, has stood empty since it closed in 2005.

Argent owner Gary Vaudin said the business was granted a building permit for the work in 2007, but the funding fell through.

I used to live opposite the pub as a kid and as a young man had my first legal drink in the pub, you used to meet all the locals there on a Friday and Saturday night ……

Well done – excellent responses. It would be great if it could be a pub again!
