Forest and Le Rondin to have same head teacher

GUERNSEY’S first-ever joint head teacher will take charge of Forest Primary and Le Rondin, Education has revealed.

Le Rondin head teacher Paula Sullivan, pictured, will hold the joint ‘executive’ position for an interim two-year period following the retirement of Forest Primary head teacher Gary Le Huray in the summer.

The announcement sparked concern from some parents who called for more details of the arrangement and how it would work.

The Education Department will review the arrangement towards the end of 2014, which it said would enable a permanent arrangement for leadership to be in place for September 2015.

    Oh Dear

This could be a good thing. It’ll save a lot of money if all the schools had a similar set up.

Deputy heads will still be there to run the school whilst the headteacher is elsewhere.

    Hmmm

Sounds like a plan to comply with FTP

How different at the harbour where PSD intend to appoint a Harbour Director who will be above the new Harbour Master when Mr Gill and his deputy retire within the next eighteen months

There will be no Deputy Harbour Master but the salary structure is likely to change from ..

Harbour Master at £X pa and Deputy H.M. at £X- pa to one of .. Harbour Director at £X + pa and Harbour Master at £X pa … and whoever heard of a Director of any States department who didn’t have a Deputy Director,an assistant Deputy Director and a mini army of paper shufflers in tow?

How will this largesse be paid for ? PAID PARKING!

Robert Sillars said recently that any FTP savings must not come at the expense of our children’s education… but this change will inevitably increase an already heavy workload for key management team members in these schools.

From the Education Department’s own web page their Senior Management Team composition is as follows :

The Department’s Senior Management Team consists of the Chief Officer, Director of Finance and Resources, Director of Education, Director of Support and Inclusion Services, Director of Communications, Head of BEST, Head of Human Resources, Head of Resources, Head of Standards and Learning Effectiveness and Head of Strategy and Policy

I am sure they could amalgamate or eliminate some of these roles without impacting the learning experience for our children…

I wonder why Alan Brown and his team aren’t starting these cuts closer to home??

Jack, you’re clearly an island wide voting man but whilst we have electoral districts, what is wrong with looking out for their electorate. That’s what I voted them in for!!And if this had been about two other schools, would you have been so quick to make the same comment about their deputies?

L’Eree Lad is looking at an old list. It should read: Chief Officer, Director of Education, Deputy Director, then the rest…. Otherwise the Lad’s post is absolutely correct.

Many of these posts should be eliminated.

As for Mrs Sullivan’s appointment, when was this advertised? What about the many talented teachers who would love to have a post like that and have been denied opportunities for promotion? The Education Department has some explaining to do.

The Press release states that she is recognised by the inspectors for her “excellent leadership of Le Rondin School” yet the inspection report on Le Rondin has not been released. Why not? What are they hiding? If a report is confidential, as this one was as it was one of the pilot inspections, it is not correct to quote publicly from it as the quote cannot be verified.

    Jack,

If, as a western deputy, I have people phoning me up expressing their concerns at this news, what would you have me do? Do you have any specific advice as to how I should respond to the concerns of the people who elected me that would at the same time not cause you concern that I was more interested in what may or may not happen way off in April 2016 than in people’s current concerns?

Or is it just a slow Friday night for you and deputies are an easy target? Have you considered standing in 2016?

Yvonne is right of course. Deputies are there to act for their areas. Yvonne is incredibly hard working and will always investigate concerns. We need more like her!

Grumpy teacher , I agree : surely such a huge change in the running of two schools should have been open to some consultation and the post opened up to the usual interviewing/shortlist process. Then the parents and teachers ( probably, I don’t know ) don’t feel that they are the last to know. People generally have huge levels of anxiety about any change esp. when presented as a fait accompli…
