TOXIC smoke billowed over parts of Forest yesterday morning as thousands of tyres went up in flames as residents slept.
But the wind kept it away from properties and there was no need to evacuate anyone.
The fire developed in a field at Chemin le Roi at around 2am, causing thick black smoke.
Firefighters did not rule out arson as they damped down the remains yesterday morning.
Fire & Rescue Service crew commander Mark Elliott said they had spent all morning tackling the blaze and damping it down.

What was Mr Valpied doing with so many thousands of tyres at this site? I know farmers use them to keep covers over their cattle food but you would not have so many.
