A CROWD of  50 gathered to remember an ‘inspirational’ Marie Ozanne on Saturday, as a blue plaque in her memory was unveiled.

There was a special service for the wartime Salvation Army major, who risked her life by peacefully opposing German forces during the Occupation.

Blue plaque adjudication panel chairman Bailiff Richard Collas said it was his pleasure to unveil the tribute at Miss Ozanne’s former home, Aquarius, Dehus Lane, Vale.

‘It is good to see so many people here,’ he said. ‘It is a remarkable tribute to a very inspirational lady. The fact that there are so many people here shows that she continues to be an inspiration.’

Just been reading John Nettles’ occupation book ‘Jewels and Jackboots’ and there is a good account of Marie Ozanne’s story.
