Good news about the Coq du Nord. The place is a crappy dump and the sooner it’s leveled the better. Can’t wait to see the plans for the new development.

First the Coq du Nord… then the Rockmount

What would you describe as “a family friendly pub”? One without beer perhaps?

AJ
I agree “family friendly pub” is an oxymoron!

One that’s “friendly” to families perhaps? Food served, facilities for children, no tolerance of bad behaviour by adults etc.
Not everyone who likes a pint is a drunken lout you know……

Beer Drinker is right – Introducing children early to an environment where adults model alcohol consumption in moderation is a good idea. I’ve taken my 3 year old to the Rockmount for lunch more than once without a problem.
I think part of the reason we have a binge drinking culture is that historically ultra-conservative local attitudes towards alcohol gave it a mystical “taboo” air that still echoes today. Historic religious attitudes to alcohol are at least partly to blame – locally this particularly applies to Methodism – and I say this as someone who attends a Methodist church.
