YOUNG climbers yesterday launched the annual challenge to climb the height of Everest – from the comfort of a climbing wall.

The three-day Everest Challenge will once again raise thousands of pounds to help pay for residential trips for Le Murier School pupils by getting participants to climb the equivalent of the world’s tallest mountain.

Pupils from the school kicked off the challenge, now in its 20th year, before those from neighbouring St Sampson’s High hit the Baubigny Schools’ climbing experience.

Le Murier pupils will climb 848 metres of the target and then rest – around 8,000 metres – will be completed by keen supporters of the cause.
