A SPECIALIST building company has gone bust claiming it was taken under because of money owed to it by the firm the States has just approved for the new mental health centre.
Building and Technical Services (CI) Ltd yesterday announced it would be voluntarily winding up, at the cost of three jobs locally. It claims it was as a result of money owed by Harbour View Construction, which States members have just approved as the main contractor for the £24m. facility to replace the Castel Hospital.
The Jersey side of the business, ACJ Air Conditioning (Jersey) Ltd, has also gone into administration, making a further 37 employees redundant.
The building firm’s director, David Mabbs, said that his company owed 21 firms in Guernsey nearly £50,000, but blamed Harbour View, for which his firm sub-contracted on work at the former St Peter Port School site.

This is so sad and again according to what we read another specialist company not being paid by the main contractor. I have read the arguments but surely is there is dispute the parties should work together for the benifit of the customer, the contracted staff and the tax payer. I strongly believe the clinical block project should be put on hold and due diligence be carried out on HVC. there are far to may questions that need answering.
Not only has a good company gone down, but they have gone

…suppose we better wait to hear the other side of the storey, before passing judgement, but on first reading, sounds like yet another bungled decision by our forward (ha)thinking powers that be,encore une varitable mess?

They should be made to pay what they owe some of these poor men have not been paid they still have to pay mortgages, rents and feed family’s. Come on States get your act together and get it sorted.

3 jobs lost locally is tragic for people involved, however maybe this small number of local employees tells its own story of the decline of the company over last 12 months. I think if you look into more detail you will find the Guernsey end of that company (BTS) has been propping up the failing ACJ Air Conditioning (Jersey) Ltd – which have no dealings with HVC Ltd – for some time which was ultimately unattainable. Before blaming local contractor maybe should look into the company’s recent track record on their other projects and reasons why they were unable to secure any work going forward with any other on island contractor. HVC certainly shouldn’t come out of this smelling of roses, but there are 2 sides every story and judegement should be reserved untill all the facts are known.

Well said Chris. I know a bit more about this issue than a lot of people. The £300k allegedly owed is nothing short of delusional. The reason BTS are/were in dispute with HVC is purely because of the former’s performance on a large States project.
It is the owners of BTS/ACJ who are responsible for the companies’ demise, nobody else.

You surely must be a CLQ/HVC employee.
It cannot be coincidence that another local sub contractor on the same project has also not been paid and is in dispute.
Watch this space for another sub contractor going into liquidation!!!
It cannot all be coincidence.
