Deputies who stayed for whole of AFR briefing have been told settlement sum
Tuesday 5th March 2013, 3:00PM GMT.
DEPUTIES who attended a Home Department briefing last week about the illegal raid on law firm AFR have finally been given all the figures involved in the settlement.
Deputy Barry Brehaut, who attended Thursday’s briefing, said the 19 States members who stayed for the whole meeting were given a ballpark figure at the time.
However, they had since been contacted with the exact amounts.
‘Around 20 States members now have all the numbers involved,’ said Deputy Brehaut, pictured.
‘The balance of members who didn’t attend don’t know – I view that as unhealthy.’

So .. IS IT CONFIDENTIAL OR NOT CONFIDENTIAL?

The craziest thing about all of this is that its not like I want heads to roll, mistakes are made sometimes, we are all human. Even if the figure was as high as the airport 2.6m fiasco. I’d accept that a settlement had to be made. Its just the principle that that money is tax payers money, and we have a right to know. If the police illegally raided my house next week, I wouldn’t imediately demand the same figure in compensation. If I had been wronged and was entitled to compo, then fine, and as long as it was a fair and reasonable amount I’d be fine with that. Depending on how reasonable the officers in question were, I may not even want compensation at all. So I don’t believe all this “setting a precedent” cr*p.

Exactly right “concerned”,
This ‘setting a precedent’ rubbish is an absolute load of rubbish in this particular context; every case is taken on its merits.
That is just another typical political ploy to get out of giving information to the tax payer.
I think it would be difficult to find another incident that has been so badly handled by politicians, although the loss of the 2.6 M is rapidly catching up. We still don’t know how it happened or who was responsible. One honourable civil servant fell on his sword, but how was this crime committed and who allowed it to happen?
Trust is failing rapidly in the integrity of many of the new States members.

So who in our privileged few, enlightened deputies has the balls to give us, the tax payers, the FULL information?

Stiletto
Don’t knock him just yet.He might turn out to be the open and transparent one who announces the figure under parliamentary privilege at the March Assembly
OR it could be Mary Lowe.. or Paul Arditti or even the good vicar himself!

Deputy Mary Lowe for President of the Home Department.Open to transparency.

@IWV – Fair point, but in all honesty have you ever known Brehaut to be ‘transparent’, other than in his stringent attempts to hint at the dark side of his colleagues, whilst ensuring his own back is covered?
And of course his absentee colleagues will know the details now and these figures will be in the public domain – with 20 Members being present the word has spread, this is Guernsey my friend.
@Islander – Lowe for Home Dept Minister, no thanks.
