Charity sends 200 bicycles to Africa

MORE than 200 bikes have been donated in the last two weeks for an initiative that will see them sent to Africa.

The Eleanor Foundation is collecting and preparing them for transport to the UK, where they will be handed over to the Re-Cycle charity before being sent on.

‘We are extremely grateful to all those people who have taken the time and trouble to deliver their unwanted bicycles to our storage facility at the Braye Road Industrial Estate,’ said foundation representative Allister Carey, pictured.

‘These bikes will help to improve and transform peoples’ lives in rural communities in Africa where, very often, there is no transport and quite literally many hours each and every day are spent walking in order to collect water, to get to school, to work etc.

‘A bike can cut travel time by up to 75%.’
