A GROUP has been launched to investigate the growing number of vulnerable children whose parents have drink and drug problems, mental health issues or have been victims of domestic abuse.

The Islands Child Protection Committee has set up the working group after noting a growing number of children on the Guernsey and Alderney child protection register living in such family environments.

The committee has also pledged to raise public awareness of child abuse and encourage residents to report any potential cases.

Chairman David Hughes said the newly-formed working group included professionals from different agencies and would explore what action could be taken to address the trend.

‘It is going to start its work early this year. It will look at the impact of these factors and what steps may be taken to improve things,’ he said, adding that the committee’s aim was to get agencies to tackle child abuse and ‘to identify it early and deal with it effectively’.

All children have the right to disobey all rules: to break and destroy and desecrate, to use foul language, to steal and assault and break every law imaginable. None of the ten commandments apply to them and certainly that other rule that worked so well in the past: ‘Spare the rod and spoil the child’.

Why not? We need apprentice criminals!

Two subjects that appear to be missing, either in the home or at school are- Discipline and Respect.
These are essential in the development of a well balanced and caring society.
In my opinion, more emphasis should be made to restore these very important subjects.

    @ Bry and A.J
I must have read a different headline because I thought the one above was to protect the children not brand them all as thugs?

    My mistake!

You are right about Respect though A.J. but it must go both ways.

Didn’t read in full. Only what was put on this forum.

Note to self: must try harder :)

Still! My kids aren’t disruptive nor are any of my friends children.

The problems have to come from somewhere?
