Cour du Parc plans welcomed, but neighbours have parking worries

Monday 11th March 2013, 12:00PM GMT.

NEIGHBOURS have welcomed plans to refurbish the Cour du Parc tower block.

But they have raised concerns as to whether five parking spaces will be enough for the planned 50 flats.

The Guernsey Housing Association has submitted a planning application to revamp the building off Park Street to provide a mix of social housing, partial ownership properties and key worker accommodation.

The association has said it would be too expensive to create more parking. Instead motorbike and bike parking will be created and residents will be given bus timetables and Ormer cards.

Hayley Forsey, 44, pictured, lives opposite the flats and thinks the new green cladding would improve the building. But she was very concerned about parking.

The States dont care about parking problems as they make so much money dishing out parking tickets.

Are you forgetting the flats were all occupied only a short time ago and many if not all he tenants had cars or access to a car . They parked where they could and that will be no different in the future, so I don’t really see what has changed.

No parking “instead motorbike and bike parking will be created and residents will be given bus timetables and Ormer cards”

    Setting a precedent?

    Rosie will be pleased :)

Spartacus.parking will not be a problem as majority of nurses walk into work. The hospital is only 10 minutes walk away.HSSD have transporting vehicles on hand if required.

What about those who don’t work at the hospital?

I just like the idea of issuing free ormer cards to those in properties which don’t have parking however this should be a perk available to all not just exclusively for this development.

The GHA can only look after its own tenants, which itends to do by giving them Ormer cards.

As for parking, lots of people have to find on street parking,I am one of them.

I was regarding nurses having priority over other workers living there.
The ormer card cost £3 for 10 journeys and is only on a trial period and not free has you stated.

I believe in a free bus service for everyone but those free perks will not materialised unless taxes go up to recover them.

          Any suggestions Spartacus?.

My suggestion is exercise the body, jug to work, cycle to work or thumb a lift.

I got the impression from Dave Jones that the ormer cards wold be issued free for residents as you can’t make it compulsory for someone to buy a bus ticket.

My point was that if GHA give them to some tenants then they should give them to all.

I like the idea of anyone without a car and/or home parking space applying for a free ormer card which could perhaps be funded by letting out some of the prime location parking spaces and reducing availability. Carrot and stick.
