After the big freeze comes the big thaw.

We’re already getting reports of flooding in some areas as the huge quantity of snow in the upper parishes melts. We’ll be running stories on the cleanup operation tomorrow.

With the announcement of the shake-up to its bus timetable by operators CT Plus, we’ll be talking to bus users today to get their reaction to the changes, which include the re-introduction of a night bus and a change to the fare structure.

The appointment of the world’s first Latin American Pope has been welcomed by the Catholic Dean of Guernsey, and today we’ll be asking other Guernsey Catholics for their comments. We’ll also be seeing what youngsters at the island’s Catholics schools make of the news.

Also today we’re meeting a woman who celebrates her 100th birthday tomorrow and we’ll be getting further comments on the lack of car parking for the new-look Cour du Parc flats.

Cyclist James McLaughlin is the focus of tomorrow’s sports section back page, as he follows a race win in France with preparation for the forthcoming Tour de Normandie event.

And there’s a look ahead to a big sporting weekend, with the Muratti semi-final between Alderney and Jersey taking place in the northern island, the hockey inter-insulars at Footes Lane on Saturday, and the volleyball inter-insulars taking place in Jersey.

    Let us all hope that this new Pope can do something to settle the dispute between the Argentineans and the people of the Falkland Isles.Now that would be a Miracle!
