Strategic Land Use Plan ‘must be complete before we look at war memorial’
Saturday 16th March 2013, 5:00PM GMT.
A SUB GROUP that manages States property has denied hampering an attempt to build a privately-funded civic amenity centre and refurbished war memorial on the site of the Sunken Garden.
But the Treasury and Resources committee confirmed that it has no intention of looking at the plans until 2015.
Group chairman and Treasury board member Deputy Tony Spruce, pictured, said he had made the position clear to the Monumental Gardens Committee, which is behind the project.
‘They have been categorically told in a letter from me that the States would not consider the proposals until the Strategic Land Use Plan is complete,’ he said.
The Assembly approved the guiding principle of the SLUP last year.

Well done . it is good to know that not all states members want the land gone.

Of course Mr Spruce is quite correct to wait till 2015 to look at the strategic land use plan before even looking at the plans for this development.
The site might be needed for many more urgent uses like a wind farm, a reservoir, a missile silo in case North Korea attack us, a harbour watch house or a helicopter pad.
There are so many alternatives for this site aren`t there? So many that a quick decision is beyond this States which by 2015 will be able to put off a decision because there will be a new States being voted in to make that difficult decision.
The new States will then need a consultant to be flown in and a new report made, several debates on the matter and planning permissions sought before a decision can be voted on and by then a new Election will be in progress.
WHAT IS SO STRATEGIC ABOUT THIS SITE THAT PERMISSIONS CAN`T BE MADE NOW?
Aren`t there any consultants available before 2015?

“what’s the rush” ? sounds like you would make a great politician! :)
If this were to ahead we would still have an “oasis” only it would be an attractive Plaza.
Very much doubt it will ever come to fruition anyway as the private investor will just take his money elsewhere, and who can blame them.
