Public defibrillator to be unveiled by former England player
Tuesday 19th March 2013, 12:29PM GMT.
Former Premiership and England footballer Fabrice Muamba will unveil Guernsey’s first public defibrillator on 14 April, it has been announced.
The Skipton Swimarathon and Guernsey’s Cardiac Action Group are behind the initiative, funded by monies raised by the 2012 swimarathon.
Mr Muamba, pictured, suffered a heart attack a year ago during an FA Cup match between Bolton and Tottenham Hotspur. He recovered, although his heart stopped for over an hour.
He will be joined by local footballing legend Matt Le Tissier at the unveiling at Footes Lane.

This is great news.
However its really dissappointing that a defibrillator that was meant for all of Footes Lane and the surrounding area, has now been fenced in… Can one assume that if somebody suffers a heart attack whilst the athletics track is closed, they won’t have easy access to the ‘public’ defibrillator?
Again, the needs of GFC over rule everything else…

Very positive stuff.

By the sounds of things you are a GFC hater, because how else can you possibly come up with such a negative comment?
From April 14 there will be a defibrillator at Footes Lane where before there wasn’t one. To any normal person this is a good thing.
And by the way, the fencing in is a result of FA guidelines, not the deliberate choice of GFC.

No, I am not a GFC hater, in fact I am a proud supporter of all Guernsey sporting events and achievements.
As I said, this is great news, but ok, due to FA regulations, the defibrilator will now be fenced in, which means it is not accessible unless you are in the inner cordon. Lets just hope noone has a heart attack outside the fence.
My apologies if you felt I was being anti GFC, it should have been directed at the FA.
