CT Plus bows to pressure and comes up with alternative route plan

BUS operator CT Plus has bowed to pressure from west coast residents by offering a proposed new route as part of its overhaul of services.
The newly revealed Route 111 would run from L’Eree to L’Islet and then cut inland to the Bridge.
It has been put forward as a result of public criticism and reaction during the extended consultation into the proposed changes.
The service would run five times a day, Monday to Saturday, in each direction.
Capacity for the route would be found only by withdrawing the proposed route 32, which is a limited service to Les Vardes, via Route des Capelles and then back to Town via Pleinheaume, which would run anti-clockwise to route 31.
Route 31 would remain.

CT Plus are determined to re-number all the routes, and now we shall have a 111 ??
Why confuse the public even more ?
And CT Plus are determined to do away with the 7 and 7A – for the simple reason that they want to stop any passengers going all the way round the island for a quid !
And what about these severe price increases ?
The doubling of the standard fare and the increase of between 13.3 and 20 % on the costs of trips bought through the use of the Ormer cards !!
Not even a mention of that on the Guernseybus website.
Why did CT Plus not carry out a detailed survey of the opinion of the general public, before coming out with these ridiculous proposals which are aimed solely to squeeze the most amount of money from the public !! ??

I don`t think CT Plus has bowed to pressure but merely listened to what the bus users want and altered their planning of the routes.
This is good PR and should be recognised as such not criticised or put down.
The public were invited to comment on the new routing, did so and CT Plus reacted to their wishes.
One thing I don`t understand is why give a route the number 111, there aren`t that number of circuits you can draw on a Guernsey map.
I haven`t seen the actual proposed route map but I would think that there are only about ten routes so why not just call them routes numbers 1 to 10?
If you give all routes 2 or 3 digit numbers then similar routes can be given similar numbers ( hence the 31 & 32 , 41 & 42 )
Although strangely the 11 actually has just one number but at least 8 variations …….

11 + 111 + 91 = 7 ??
So the 7 and 7A are phased out and the routes 11, 91 and 111 introduced.
Seems to me that this CT Plus do not know what they are doing except they just want to find excuses to increase fares and to confuse bus users !

My back of a fag packet calculations show that running the old 7/7A would use roughly the same resources as the proposed 11, 91 ( and the hastily thought up 111 )
Although the new routes cover less of the island less frequently.
Add to that the large numbers of passengers using the 7 / 7A ( still promoted here http://hctgroup.org/ct_plus_guernsey/visiting_guernsey by CT as an excellent way for tourists to cheaply get around the island ) and its a no brainer that the changes go ahead ……

My bad. Having checked my calculations on the back of an envelope I have come to this startling conclusion – the route 11 alone would require the same resources as the 7 & 7A.
Add in the 91 and THEN the 111 and you need even more resources ….

This can Easy be solved by giving the 7 7A to another company and let them charge £5 for a round island trip .. then Ct plus can start extra routes with smaller buses feeding the places buses don’t go and can inter act with these routes giving a far better services .
For locals with Ormer cards fare for all party’s
And shuttles from airport every 20 mins running
Around plenmont and LE,ree ..and all along the coast to the. Bridge simpleS….

Not only are the new routes no less complicated than the old ones, with a complete new and yet unnecessary numbering system to boot, but the proposed new fares are extortionate.
The new single fares are being doubled !
And to appease, ( and hoodwink ), the local population, residents will be allowed to pay only £1.00 for that single fare – upon presentation of an Ormer card.
If they have an Ormer card they are not going to have to pay the standard single fare regardless if it is £1.00 or £2.00 now are they ??
And anyway, as has been pointed out many times, the Ormer card is easily obtainable by residents of the island as well as non-residents !!
Who on earth is managing this new bus company and dreaming up these silly ideas !
An ormer could do a better job !!

Is it me or are Guernsey people never satisfied and just whinge at everything. Why don’t they just suspend the bus service until people in this island can be thankful that there is a service.
The reason for the whinge…
Is that CT Plus, the new bus operator, is shuffling round the routes, renumbering them all in order to confuse the traveling public, cutting out the round the island routes, pretending they are doing everyone a favour by introducing a new North – Airport service when one exists already with the round the island route that CT want to cancel, and…
Hike up drastically the prices !!
Fair game for a good whinge I reckon.

Luckily my holiday finishes on 1st May. If the buses are going to be so poor in future, this may be my last visit after 20 years. Part of the selling point (and praised in all travel books)is the excellent bus service. I know I am only a visitor; but are we not quite important to the economy!

keep jogging.I am sure you can reach town from St Sampsons in the morning and evening rush hour than the bus can.

Why did Environment allow negotiations with the previous operator to stall?
It is becoming apparent that the new operator is a huge step backwards for island bus services.

I wonder if anyone can confirm when the consultation period ends ?
